A Walk Through Pilsen

Tram number 2Here is the tram outside our little apartment waiting to take 'chelle and me into town.  It's a clear and lovely day

MuseumThe Museum of Western Bohemia.  There is an incredible 15th-17th century arsenal here.  If the Hussites ever come back, this will be one place that's prepared for them.

The ParkThe Park outside my University building.  It's lovely and as you can see, the trees are quickly going from green to brown.  Still, it's a lovely walkway that stretches from the Museum to the Opera House.

StatueA statue in the park.  There are many statues and fountains in the city center, but I like the natural, non-political feel of this one.  It's a lovely place to bring a lunch for a break between classes.

SmetanovaThis is one of the more magical streets in Pilsen, at least for me.  Perhaps it's because it has become a complete pedestrian walkway.  It has some lovely shops and leads to the main square.

The ChurchHere is St. Bartholomew's Cathedral in the heart of Pilsen, the Square of the Republic.  It is the historic landmark that is clear in paintings of Pilsen from any age.  It is a huge relic of Bohemia's religious past.

Plague ColumnThis column is to ward of the plague and many such Plague Columns were erected all over Bohemia.  Relatively speaking, it's pretty small, but it is a very impressive work of art.

Cathedral DoorsFor some reason I decided to take a photo of the Cathedral entrance.  It's rather beautiful, and the people standing in front are probably German tourists.

Church TowerThe Tower of the Cathedral is an enormous freestanding monument that can be seen from just about any part of the city.  It also provides a breathtaking view of the city.

Post Office SquareThis is the lovely post office, one of the busiest Tram stops in the city.  This picture is great because you get to see a Tram, a Trabant (East German Car) and a Skoda (Czech car).  This is the end of my short walk.  I caught the tram and went home.

I hope you enjoyed the little tour of Pilsen.
